December wrapped up the year positively for equities worldwide. The S&P 500 Index rose 2.5% during the course of the month. Foreign stocks, as measured by the MSCI EAFE Index, also moved higher with a 1.5% gain in December. For all of 2013, domestic stocks outperformed foreign stocks—32.2% to 23.3%, respectively.
